Carpenters Yard Granted Planning Permission

Our most recent project at Priddy’s Hard in Gosport has been granted planning permission. The project will see the historic buildings and landscape at Carpenters Yard repaired and refurbished into new fit for purpose artist studios.

Funded by Arts Council England and Portsmouth Historic Quarter the project aims to stabilise and repair building decay, and provide new welfare facilities and infrastructure. It will also improve the environmental performance of the spaces, through the installation of internal insulation, photo-voltaic panels, and upgraded operational infrastructure.

Carpenters Yard is a collection of unlisted buildings on the Priddy’s Hard site that have a varied history. In the 19th century the site had stables, a coach house and the fire engine house. By 1903 the buildings were in use as Works Department Workshops, with the New Carpenters Shop and the Painters Ship being added between 1881 and 1903. In 1906 part of the site was noted as being the Smithy and Cook House. Between 1914 and 1920 further buildings were constructed on the site housing the Pay office and Fire Engine House.
